Wake up and Write

Good morning!

Welcome to my new writing segment called, "Wake up and Write". In this segment, I will do exactly what the title of this says... I am going to wake up and write.

But there is a rule to all of this...

I can't plan for what I am going to write.

I will literally just wake up, make some coffee, open my laptop up and write.

There is a reason for this...Let me tell you how this came to me...

This morning, when waking up, I was laying in bed thinking about this blog (DanFluence) and how in 2021 I had essentially abandoned it. And I was feeling pretty anxious about it all... As if I had let myself down or had failed at it...

A quick background on this... About a year ago, I would wake up on the weekend, get myself all dressed and my book bag packed with my laptop, mouse and notebooks in it. I would pack myself some snacks and a water and I would head out to a nearby coffee shop where I would spend a good 2-3 hrs crafting up a new blog post.

But as the weeks went by, I found myself getting too busy to go to the coffee shop.

I would miss my writing time...

So what ended up happening?

Because I didn't make it to the coffee shop, I quit writing in DanFluence...

LIKE COMPLETELY STOPPED!

Why did I do this???

Looking back on it, I realize why I stopped. It's going to sound silly, but...

I think I actually linked my commitment to arriving at the coffee shop with my ability to succeed in writing.

Do you ever do something like this?

You start going to the gym to get in shape... but then you stop going to the gym, so you quit working out because you failed at going to the gym.

There are so many things we start doing but then stop completely when we fail to show up once or twice to it...

And how often do we stop something because we can't make it to "the place" that activity takes place at?

When in reality, you could have still done the activity from a different location?

So my challenge to myself and to anyone else reading this is:

Don't allow the circumstances of life to prevent you from stopping whatever it is that you are trying to grow.

Even with "Wake up and Write"...

The challenge will be to just stay consistent with it. And also, to not quit writing completely when I wake up too late, or have an early appointment to get to, or have work, or miss a week.

There are some strong lessons here that I wish I could expand on, and over time, I will do so... But for now, I am hitting "Publish" and getting to the rest of my day!

Thank you for reading. Please subscribe to this blog and follow me as I continue on with my journey.

God bless.

-Daniel
